Alfredo Morelos axed – Confirmed Rangers starting XI v Dundee United

Michael Beale has named his Rangers starting XI to face Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (8 January), the club has confirmed.

Michael Beale’s immaculate record as Gers manager was dented in a controversy-filled 2-2 draw against Celtic last time out, and he will look to reduce the deficit at the top of the table to nine points with a win at Tannadice Park.

The Englishman faces a Dundee United side who arrive full of confidence following consecutive SPL wins, which were matched with clean sheets.

As confirmed on Twitter prior to kick-off, Rangers have welcomed back Jon McLaughlin, Ryan Jack and Antonio Colak into the starting lineup, with Allan McGregor, Glen Kamara and Alfredo Morelos, whose contract expires this year, dropping to the bench.

Confidence growing

Although Rangers will still find themselves nine points off Celtic with a win at Dundee on Sunday, the confidence is slowly starting to creep back into the team’s play as Beale gets to grips with his squad.

Winning football matches breeds confidence, and the Gers are living evidence of this.

Ryan Kent looks a man rejuvenated in recent weeks following a difficult spell under previous manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, while Malik Tillman continues to move from strength to strength in his more attacking starting position.

All Beale’s side can do is continue to put the pressure on Ange Postecoglou and hope that Celtic start to stutter as the finishing line gets within sight.

Although this is highly unlikely, Rangers need to believe they can pull off a miraculous title bid, and they can continue along their merry way by claiming three points against an in-form United side on the road today.

In other Rangers news, the Gers want to sign this South American ace who’s playing in Europe.
