Sky Sports pundit: Rangers winger Ryan Kent could look to speak to other clubs in January

Rangers winger Ryan Kent could be looking to speak to other clubs in the January window, as suggested by Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd.

Kent has less than a few months left on his current deal at Ibrox but Boyd has suggested that the Bears should do everything to keep him at the club.

The 26-year-old has improved in recent games under Michael Beale, and Boyd has no doubt that he is the one the club should look to hold on to.

“Rangers must find a way to keep him [Kent] at the club,” said Boyd on Sky Sports, as relayed by the Daily Record (5 January, page 50).

“I totally understand that he would want the opportunity to speak to other clubs to explore what’s there.

“But I think Kent loves it at Ibrox, he’s adored by the fans.

“We have spoken about his numbers and he can improve, there is no doubt about that, but he brings so much more to the team. He is one that you really need to get tied down.”

Critical

Rangers need to deal properly with the contract situations of some of their players, including Kent.

Alfredo Morelos is also another player who is in the final few months of his contract at Ibrox, but Boyd suggested on Sky Sports transfer centre live blog, 4 January, 15:54pm) that the Colombian should be sold.

The Bears spent big to sign Kent permanently from Liverpool in 2019 and the winger has become a key player for the club over the years.

There are some who feel that he is a show pony and doesn’t add value to the side, but the truth is Kent is a top-class player who like everybody else, needs to improve on some aspects of his game.

Rangers

Kent has got loads of quality, and Beale has found a way to get the best out of him.

Under previous managers, Kent used to hug the touchlines from the left and tried to cut inside. It was a predictable move. His numbers are poor as a result.

Beale has used kent more centrally, a role similar to what Lionel Messi did for Argentina in the World Cup, and we’re already witnessing a huge improvement in his output.
