Rangers want Keanu Baccus, now could be time for St Mirren to cash in on Australian ace

St Mirren could look to cash in on midfielder Keanu Baccus as Rangers scout the 24-year-old Australian international, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The Scottish Sun reported (29 December) that the Gers are considering a January move for the Buddies’ “star player”.

It’s understood St Mirren won’t stand in his way if the price is right and the Scottish Daily Mail has since revealed (5 January, pg 74) that now could be the time to cash in on the midfielder, who is in the final 18 months of his current deal.

It is understood that English Championship sides are also keen.

One to watch

This is certainly one to watch for Rangers and the Ibrox faithful. Baccus is an emerging talent and has World Cup experience with Australia. Furthermore, with his contract coming to a close in the summer of 2024, there could be a cut-price deal for Michael Beale and his recruitment team to look into.

One concern could be Celtic looking to hijack a deal for the 24-year-old, with Ange Postecoglou clearly aware of the midfielder, due to his presence in the Australian national team set-up. The Light Blues’ midfield certainly needs a face life over the next two transfer windows.

There are a number of older players who are certainly coming to the end of their careers, with Steven Davis and Scott Arfield potentially coming to the end of their time at the club. Baccus would be a longer-term signing, and could potentially be a taste of what’s to come under the new boss.

In other Rangers news, the Gers want to sign this South American ace who’s playing in Europe.
