Rangers can afford £10,000-a-week contract to sign Ross Stewart from Sunderland
Rangers would be able to pay Ross Stewart’s £10,000-a-week wage as the Light Blues remain interested in the striker, according to Dean Jones.
It’s understood Sunderland have offered to triple the 26-year-old’s current £3,300-a-week wage, as they look to keep the forward at the Stadium of Light (The Sun, 1 January).
However, it’s believed the two parties are still some way from an agreement as a number of clubs join the race for Stewart who has scored 38 goals in 76 games for the Black Cats.

Jones has since revealed that the interest from the Light Blues is “definitely real” and that his wage demands would be realistic for the Scottish Premiership giants.
“This deal has always seemed quite unlikely anyway, despite the fact that the interest is definitely real,” the former Bleacher Report journalist told GIVEMESPORT (4 January).
“I think £10,000-a-week at Rangers would seem doable, given what some other players earn, but as we’ve said before, it’s that price tag. It’s always looked like the trickiest hurdle to me; I think that still remains the fact.”
Interesting
It’s interesting to hear that Rangers would be able to compete when it comes to Stewart’s wages. The Championship is littered with big salaries and high earners, so it’s good to see Rangers compete with some of the second-tier’s biggest hitters. A move for Stewart does look unlikely at the moment, purely down to the large number of teams who are currently tracking the Scotland international.
Another striker is certainly something to consider for Michael Beale as he looks to rejuvenate his squad over the next two transfer windows. Alfredo Morelos still faces an uncertain future and could well be leaving the club when his contract expires in the summer.

Antonio Colak has enjoyed a good start to life at Ibrox, but he will need some sort of competition at the start of the 2023/24 campaign. The January window provides the new boss with the chance to move on some of the players he deems surplus to requirements at Ibrox.
Moving players out of the club could be just as important as bringing new faces to Ibrox over the next two windows.
In other Rangers news, the Gers want to sign this South American ace who’s playing in Europe.
