Fashion Sakala earns ‘full marks’ from BBC pundit as Rangers draw v Celtic

BBC pundit Neil McCann was mightily impressed by Rangers winger Fashion Sakala as the Light Blues drew 2-2 against Celtic at Ibrox.

The Bears got off to the worst possible start as Daizen Maeda walked through the defence to score but a seven-minute riot saw Ryan Kent and James Tavernier turn the game around.

Kyogo Furuhashi rescued a point for Ange Postecoglu’s side to keep the gap at nine points at the top of the Premiership table but Michael Beale’s side made most of the running.

McCann was especially impressed by Sakala’s endeavour for the equalising goal as he shrugged off Celtic players and kept his cool to find a good pass through to Kent who finished with aplomb.

“What a finish. It’s calm, it’s composed and it’s so precise. Full marks to Fashion Sakala,” McCann said [01:39pm]. “He was really positive in the first half, his application was good. Sakala gets a yard on him and Juranovic never recovered.”

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

As the Bears went into the break 1-0 down, many would have been hoping Sakala would be substituted at half-time after failing to get into the game at all.

But Beale must have given him a piece of his mind during the 15-minute break because when he re-emerged for the second half, he had turned into an absolute monster.

Josip Juranoivc, one of the stars of the World Cup for Croatia, could not get near the Zambian who also won the penalty which Tavernier converted to make it 2-1.

The 25-year-old has had to be very patient to get his prolonged chance at Ibrox and Beale seems to finally be giving him that as some managers would have chosen to haul him off at halftime.

If he can cause as many problems as he did in every game he plays, then he won’t have to worry about being dropped because his name will be the first on the team sheet.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have seemingly made a signing already in January as the relative of this Scottish starlet broke the news on Twitter.
