Pundit makes contract admission on Rangers attacker Ryan Kent

Barry Ferguson believes that Ryan Kent will sign a new deal at Rangers with Michael Beale now in charge at the helm after joining during the break.

He also sees Steven Gerrard’s former assistant building the squad around the 26-year-old English attacker after what he heard Beale say about him.

Kent’s in a bit of a contractual predicament with his current deal at Ibrox running out at the end of the season.

Rangers

Ferguson told Go Radio, as quoted by Football Scotland [19 December], “Those quotes from Beale tell me he wants to try and build the team around Ryan Kent. I liked his performance last week against Hibs but I’m just going to be greedy with Kent, I want more assists. It’s the final bit in his game that’s letting him down.

“But you can see it’s coming, Michael Beale said he’s known him since he was 14 and there’s a good relationship there.

“I’ve got a feeling Kent might sign a new Rangers contract because of his relationship with Michael Beale. Yes he might want to chance his arm down in the English Premier League and earn a big pay day.

“But I’ve got a feeling he might give him another 18 months – if you include half of this season and half of next season – then the January transfer window opens next year.”

Needs to prove it

We all know how good and talented a player Kent and his ability to turn defence into attack within the blink of an eye.

However, his game-changing moments have been rare and extremely hard to come by in the past 12 months which have led to serious doubts about his mentality.

If he doesn’t feel that Rangers are at the level of club he should be at, then January is the perfect time to get something from his sale rather than allow him to run down his contract.

If Beale does see a change in attitude and Kent’s willingness to run through brick walls for him, then, by all means, he should stay at Ibrox.

Building a side around Kent makes a whole lot of sense as he’s still to reach his peak and is loved by the fans as well as his teammates.

We will keep a close eye on his next few performances and hopefully, he manages to turn around a new leaf.
