Journalist jokes about ‘Silly’ Rangers-Celtic controversy after what Michael Beale said
Jonny McFarlane has billed Michael Beale’s refusal to address Celtic as Rangers look to overtake them in the league as “silly”.
Beale was asked about potentially catching up to their arch-rivals in the SPFL as they’re now nine points adrift and have a mountain to climb.
Instead of referring to them as Celtic, he called them the “other team” and that’s led to a bizarre controversy in the media.
McFarlane, who’s a journalist at Rangers Review, wrote on Twitter, “In a city where silly controversies whipping people up into an unnecessary froth are an everyday occurrence, this must be one of the daftest.”
Bizarre
We do not even know why such a big deal is being made about what Beale said and also why did he have to say it in the first place.
No Rangers fan is going to boo him if he mentions Celtic’s name and he should be proud of his team and back the players to overcome their lead.
Also, even if he doesn’t want to mention him, we do not know why the media wants to have a field day with him.
They surely just want to target Beale and get him to say something more which they’ll again go on to misquote as it’s something we’ve seen happen in the past.
This should die down by the next news cycle and we’ll be surprised if there are people still talking about it after that.
However, we cannot put it past the likes of Chris Sutton and Michael Stewart to bring it up the next time Beale draws or loses a game at the helm as this puerile partisanship of Celtic and Rangers in the media never seems to end.
