Rangers handed mega transfer boost to sign Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin
Rangers target Nicolas Raskin has reportedly been banished from the Standard Liege first team after a major falling out behind the scenes.
Daily Record reported on 18 November that the Gers are keen on bringing the 21-year-old to Ibrox over the January window.
It was understood that he was handed a contract deadline by the Belgian club earlier over the month, but things now appear to have gone south.
Former RMC journalist Sacha Tavolieri took to Twitter to drop a bombshell about the Belgian midfielder who’s exit is now set in stone.
He wrote, “Nicolas Raskin summoned by the management of #Standard to no longer train with the professional group. The U21 international, free this summer, has been dismissed by his club and must therefore train alone from today while waiting for his departure on January 1st.”
This news undoubtedly will have come as a huge boost to Rangers as the player now appears set to leave the club.
His contract also runs out at the end of the season so if Gers do not want to shell out a transfer fee, they can agree a pre-contract with him.
However, the fact that Liege seem so desperate to get rid of him, they could agree to a discounted price, giving Rangers the chance to secure his services earlier than expected.
With Glen Kamara’s future up in the air, Gers appear to have a replacement waiting to move to Ibrox.
Michael Beale surely will not fret as Raskin has been on the club’s radar for a while and if the Finland international is to be sold, he’s unlikely to have a problem with the 21-year-old replacing him.
The Belgian midfielder can play as a lone six and is also capable of playing a box-to-box role and as a number 10 – so he does seem like a jack of all trades and signing him should be a no brainer.
