Michael Beale confirms senior Rangers player to sign Ibrox contract extension

Michael Beale has confirmed that an unnamed Rangers player is due to sign a contract extension as the club prepare to announce Leon King’s new deal.

The Times reported (13 December) that King’s two-year contract extension is set to be finalised, with the 18-year-old set to stay at Ibrox until 2026.

Beale has since suggested (quoted by The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell, 14 December) another “senior” player is set to extend their Ibrox stay. The 42-year-old also confirmed the player in question is not Ryan Kent.

Obvious

The obvious candidate would be 30-year-old Ryan Jack, who has always been a dependable performer for the Gers and has been missed during his time out injured in the 2022/23 season. His contract is up in the summer, and there has been little talk surrounding his future to date. He’s at an age where he still has plenty to offer, and another two-year deal would be smart work from the club.

The other candidate would be Scott Arfield, however, at 34, it does feel as if his best years are potentially behind him. Although, considering the club offered 37-year-old Steven Davis a one-year extension last summer, it would not be beyond the realms of possibility.

Davis and Allan McGregor are almost certainly embarking on their final season with Rangers, so it’s probably best to rule them both out when it comes to being offered an extension.

Alfredo Morelos is another player who is out of contract, however, it would be a huge surprise if he had agreed on new terms considering his form this season, and his clear desire to look for pastures new.

In other Rangers news, a journalist believes Michael Beale can transform Malik Tillman into a £20 million player if he signs a permanent contract.
