Barry Ferguson makes Rangers transfer admission as Everton defender Nathan Patterson open to Ibrox return
Barry Ferguson believes that Rangers will not be able to afford the services of Everton defender Nathan Patterson despite his recent comments.
Speaking to the Scottish media last week, the young right-back admitted that he had unfinished business at Ibrox and would be open to returning.
However, while Ferguson has waxed lyrical over him, he admits that his coming back to the 55-time champions may not be possible in the near future.

He told Go Radio, as transcribed by the Scottish Sun, “Well they won’t be able to afford him (Patterson) now – he’ll cost a fortune.
“You’ve got to understand that money talks and they’re going to move down to the English Premier League.
“It’s brilliant to see young players go down there and showcase their talents and Nathan Patterson has done that at Everton.”
Spot on
There’s no point in discussing a potential Patterson return as most Rangers fans know that it’s unlikely to happen in the near future.
Steven Gerrard admired him a great deal during his time at Ibrox and even called him “Fantastic.”
He was viewed as the potential replacement for James Tavernier, but the money offered by the Premier League side was too good to turn down.
More importantly, the player himself wanted a move away from Ibrox and fancied a Premier League switch so Ross Wilson and co were not going to come in his way.
If he is available for lesser money or runs out his contract and wants to return, we’re sure that the hierarchy would welcome him with open arms.
He’s already improved massively as a player moving south of the border and the fact that he’s only 21 means that there’s still plenty of room for improvement.
One thing is clear, he still misses life in Glasgow but game time would probably not be guaranteed so it’s a good move for his career that he left.
