Finance Expert: Rangers can feel abandoned by co-efficient developments

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers have every right to feel abandoned by the co-efficient rulings after returning to the Champions League this season.

The ECA chief spoke out this week admitting that there is still a place for these financial ladders despite the clear gap that they have introduced.

The Finance Expert shared that the gap will never be closed if teams like Rangers are only getting around £1million compared to the top sides bringing in around £30million.

“I think they will feel abandoned and rightly so,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“I’ve said this time and time again, the co-efficient system is in favour of the biggest clubs, the fact that you track that back of five years, that is always going to benefit the bigger clubs as you’re stacking the odds in their favour.

“We’ve seen how difficult it is for Rangers and Celtic in particular, the Scottish League coefficient is not as high with only place available directly into the groups and there wasn’t even that a couple of years ago and it’s all based around this system.

“Whenever you have that in place and you’re splitting that as the bottom club gets £1million compared to the top club getting £32million, you’re never going to close that gap and it’s through no fault of Rangers, it’s just the system.”

Michael Beale will be making it one of his main goals to bring in the silverware but also to return to the Champions League as soon as possible.

Finishing higher up than the Bears did this season will also be a big goal, especially given that it looks as though the co-efficient payments are around to stay.

In other Rangers news, this finance expert admits the Bears have numerous options on the table to generate more investment when needed
