Finance Expert: Moral versus financial argument as Rangers could be hit by SFA sponsorship bans

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Dan Plumley has insisted that the SFA will need to replace sponsors should alcohol brands be banned in the future, with Rangers among many affected.

The Finance Expert has insisted that the Old Firm are less reliant on the sponsors compared to others with their windfalls, but they will still have budgeted for it.

It is an argument of finances against morals it is said with a replacement needed to be put in line before any major moves are made in the coming months and years.

“I think that’s really important,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“Rangers and Celtic are probably less reliant on some of these sponsors that go across a number of these clubs and leagues in Scotland than others, but it will still have implications.

“It’s tricky because it becomes a moral versus financial argument. From a financial point of view, it’s that money is there and it’s part of the deal and the clubs are expecting that money to be realised, if you remove that from a moral point of view then you have a hole to fill, so financially, if you lose a sponsor or a set of sponsors, and they need replacing, when do you go and get that money from in the short term?

“We have seen issues with sponsors in Scotland, and they are reliant on a certain set of sponsors, and there is wider economic things to bring into it with clubs recovering from the COVID pandemic and money is tight.

“You’ve got to replace it as the clubs have budgeted for it.”

With court cases and managerial changes, this is the last thing the Rangers board need right now.

Douglas Park and his team will be keeping one eye on developments but it shouldn’t be too much of an issue for the Bears right now, thankfully.

In other Rangers news, this finance expert admits the Bears have numerous options on the table to generate more investment when needed
