Rangers contract hope for Ryan Jack as Ibrox silence continues

Ryan Jack’s career at Rangers has looked uncertain in recent months with his contract at Ibrox set to expire in the summer of 2023.

Jack has previously revealed how he is yet to have opened contract negotiations with the club (Daily Express, 30 September). His chances of a new deal looked to have taken another blow after he was forced off in the Gers’ damaging 7-1 defeat to Liverpool.

Initially, it looked like it could have been a fatal blow to his Ibrox career, however, he has since returned to the matchday squad.

Now, Jack could have been given a further glimmer of hope after it was revealed (Daily Express, 20 November) Rangers are looking at bringing fellow 30-year-old Kenny McLean to Ibrox. The boyhood Rangers fan is out of contract at Norwich in the summer and could be snapped up for free.

Questions over Jack’s future were asked due to his age, however, if the Gers are looking to sign another midfielder at a similar time in his career, it could well offer the former Aberdeen man some hope that he will be offered new terms.

McLean moving to Ibrox does make sense, with the midfielder at a stage in his career where playing at the top end of the Championship or in the Premier League could see his minutes limited. If he moved to Ibrox he would be a key figure for the Gers moving forward.

It’s a move which could well happen considering his links to the club – and if so, Jack should be enquiring about a new deal as well.
