Sinisa Mihajlovic still on Bologna payroll as he wants to be new Rangers manager

Sinisa Mihajlovic is still on the payroll of his former club Bologna but would be more than happy to take the head coach role at Rangers, according to ilrestodelcarlino.it.

The 53-year-old Serbian is currently out of work after a damning divorce with Serie A side Bologna, however, he is still getting paid by the club until June 2023.

The report claims that the Red and Blues will have to pay Mihajlovic £867,000 (€1m) if he remains jobless, so if Rangers want to secure his services, they’ll have to get past this hurdle first.

“Mihajlovic is still on the rossoblù payroll until June (for one million euros), so if the Scottish track materialises, he would have to negotiate the definitive divorce with Casteldebole (resignation or consensual termination),” as quoted by ilrestodelcarlino.it.

Gamble.

Mihajlovic would be a real gamble for Rangers, especially when you consider the Serbian’s current contract squabbles with his former club Bologna.

He has vast experience as a manager which would be useful for the Gers, although, all of this experience has come in Italy and he hasn’t proven himself much outside of that country.

Other candidates for the head coach role at Rangers seem more feasible right now, the likes of Michael Beale and Sean Dyche seem better suited to the role than Mihajlovic.

Nevertheless, the master tactician has headed the roles at some of Italy’s biggest clubs for a reason and there’s no doubt that he could potentially do a decent job at Ibrox too.

Whatever happens in Rangers’ quest for a new manager, we’ll likely find out in the coming days who the real frontrunners are for the role.

Fortunately, time is on the side of the Gers board this time around, but they need to get their act together before players return from their mini FIFA World Cup break.
