Rangers: Alfredo Morelos spark fury in Hugh Keevins after Colombia Instagram snap

Alfredo Morelos has not been his usual self for Rangers this season with Antonio Colak coming in and taking over the striker position.

The 26-year-old seemingly could not wait to get away from Ibrox after the final game pre-World Cup ended in a 1- draw away at St Mirren as he posted an image on Instagram of him bathed in sunshine in his native Colombia.

That picture sparked fury within Daily Record columnist Hugh Keevins who slammed the Rangers attacker for what he described as an insensitive post.

“The pity is Morelos didn’t think in his native tongue before posting a photograph of himself on social media while having it large, as they say in the fleshpots of Playa Mayapo in Northern Colombia,” he said.

“It was an insensitive act reminiscent of his recent behaviour on the field. He suits himself and he doesn’t care what anyone else thinks, neither his teammates nor his manager.

“Alfredo might as well have captioned the photo with the words: “Only a few more weeks until I can sign a pre-contract agreement with someone else.”

“Who that might be, on the other hand, might tax the imagination, given his present form and physical appearance. But that won’t pacify the fans back in austerity-hit Scotland who see themselves being mocked by the “I’m alright Jack” pose.”

Over

This reaction is quite over-exaggerated in truth but the premise remains that Morelos’ time at Ibrox is very limited and it could easily be all over in January.

The Colombian international is highly unlikely to sign a new contract now that he is no longer the top dog in Glasgow which means he will be available for pre-contract talks when 1 January 2023 rolls around.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson should be determined to get rid of him in the winter window as a result with the potential for some profit still on the table for a club that wants him immediately.

Whoever does go ahead and sign him had better be ready for the chaos he brings and while it often leads to good things for the club he plays for, it will certainly age any manager twice as fast as a regular player.

After all the memories he provided Rangers fans, this is not the ending he or any of the Ibrox faithful envisaged or hopped for him.

In other Rangers news, this teenager from South London could be set for a trial at Auchenhowie, according to Ibrox News sources.
