Exclusive: Kinetic Academy ace Andre Gray could be set for Rangers trial
Kinetic Academy teenager Andre Gray could be handed the chance to impress Rangers at Auchenhowie, Ibrox News understands.
The central defender was an integral part of the South London academy’s run to the FA Youth Cup first round in partnership with Corinthian Casuals where they were beaten 4-1 by Gillingham.
Kinetic were waiting for their run in the Youth Cup to end before they went ahead with allowing players to go on trial across the country and Gray could be heading for Glasgow.
“Maybe Rangers and maybe a couple of other clubs,” Kinetic Academy founder Harry Hudson said to Ibrox News while he is also thought to be heading to Sheffield United to test his mettle.
Rangers have a history of Kinetic Academy graduates already despite the foundation only being set up in 2011 with Kevin Ciubotaru currently in the Light Blues’ B team and Under-18s side.
Joe Aribo is another who came from the academy although while Ciubotaru went directly to Glasgow, the Nigerian international came via Charlton Athletic before heading to Southampton for £6million.
There is a high likelihood that the Rangers coaches were impressed by Gray when Kinetic made the pilgrimage up to Scotland for a brief tour of the area where they beat the Bears’ Under-18s and also took on St Mirren’s youth sides the next day.
Other prestigious Kinetic alumni include Welsh international Rhys Norrington-Davies, Bordeaux striker Josh Maja and England youth international Kwawdo Baah, who’s now at Fortuna Dusseldorf.
The foundation offers players who have been axed from academies in London a second chance of success and has seen 65 graduates to a professional contract and Gray could be the next off the production line if his trial with the Gers goes well.
