Pundit drops damning Ryan Kent Rangers verdict in Celtic comparison

Tam McManus feels Ryan Kent is “miles off” his attacking counterparts at Celtic with the 26-year-old struggling for Rangers during the 2022/23 campaign.

Kent has just one goal to his name so far this season and has seen his Rangers future thrown into doubt with his current deal ending in the summer.

McManus has suggested the winger doesn’t offer enough for the Light Blues, who are often “dependent” on the 26-year-old.

“Rangers are predictable and Kent’s the only player in the team with genuine pace as well,” said McManus (PLZ Football Show, 36:31, 18 November).

“I think if you can snuff him out they don’t have much creativity and I think they’re very dependent on Ryan Kent. He’s a good player but his numbers in terms of goals and assists have been miles off the boys at Celtic.”

Hit the ground running

It’s absolutely essential that Kent rediscovers some sort of form when the Scottish Premiership restarts in the middle of December. He often looks like a livewire for the Gers but comes up dreadfully short in terms of his output. His contract situation is clearly doing no one any favours, with the winger likely to depart Ibrox in the summer.

With his future likely to be away from the club, it’s understandable to see why his performance levels have dropped, as he turns his attention elsewhere. Although, his current form won’t see any Premier League club take a punt on him. A move to the Championship or to a European club would be the likeliest move for the skilful winger.

Rangers

If the 26-year-old harbours any hope of getting a move to England’s top flight, he simply has to improve his performance in the second half of the season. The World Cup break could come at a good time for Kent to gain some rest bite from his growing critics at Ibrox.
