We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Rangers need to sign up to four new players in the January transfer window in order to get the squad up to scratch, according to Tam McManus.

Ross Wilson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst oversaw a fairly busy summer transfer window, signing seven new players while also offloading the likes of Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey, Leon Balogun, Cedric Itten and Nikola Katic.

Since then, the Gers’ performances in the Scottish Premiership have dipped, the club’s Champions League campaign was an embarrassment, an injury crisis has taken hold and van Bronckhorst has found himself clinging onto his job [GlasgowWorld].

McManus feels as though the title race is already over but he believes Wilson and van Bronckhorst need to scour the market outside of Scotland in order to add multiple new faces in January.

“Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs to stem the performances and the results because the players that are there now aren’t doing it – the squad’s just not strong enough,” McManus told Ibrox News.

He’s got to bring three or four in during January to put pressure on the guys that are there.

Yes, they have injuries but the guys aren’t performing at the levels they should be so I think he’ll be looking to bring in players.

Whether that’s from England or abroad, I think they will sign three or four in January for van Bronckhorst to try and get a reaction and get some points on the board.”

Rangers have entered the World Cup break nine points behind Celtic and only eight points clear of third-placed Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

They’re out of Europe but still have two domestic cups to try and play for.

Decisions also need to be made on a whole heap of players going out of contract in the summer.

In other Rangers news, the latest Ibrox conspiracy theory drummed up by Celtic fans is ridiculed by Gordon Parks.
