New Rangers concern as forward Fashion Sakala is forced out of Zambia squad

Just days into the World Cup break, Rangers have already been hit with an injury blow with Fashion Sakala unable to report to Zambia’s international camp.

Sakala was expected to join up with the Zambia national team this week and participate in the upcoming friendly match against Israel.

However, Zambia physician Dr Wesley Ngongo has confirmed that the 25-year-old has been advised to stay in Glasgow to rehabilitate his injury.

two players, Fashion Sakala and Frankie Musonda haven’t been able to report to camp,” reported Ngongo, as quoted by Daily Record.

“But after further consultations with medical staff from their respective clubs it was found that they are both injured as a result they will not be able to participate in the upcoming games.

“We have been in discussions with both the players and their medical staff and together it was decided that the best course of action was for them to complete their rehabilitation at their respective clubs.”

Another concern

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be sick of the word ‘injury’. The Dutchman has been forced to work with a weakened Gers squad for the last couple of months after a number of key players spent time in the treatment room.

Tom Lawrence, Ianis Hagi and Kemar Roofe have all been long-term absentees for Rangers, while Antonio Colak and Connor Goldson have also had their fair share of injury scares.

With his job on the line and Rangers needing to close the gap to Celtic when football resumes in December, Van Bronckhorst will hope to have a fully fit and energised squad report to Ibrox.

However, it seems that wish is already in tatters with Sakala now returning to the Ibrox treatment room. It’s unclear how long the winger will be sidelined for, but Van Bronckhrost will hope to have him fit for the league match against Hibernian on 15 December.

Before that, Rangers will look to build up some match sharpness with a friendly against Bayer Leverkusen on December 10.
