Giovanni van Bronckhorst position ‘completely untenable’ at Ibrox – Official Rangers partner

Rangers’ official commercial partner Four Lads Had a Dream have called for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to be sacked at Ibrox following the poor run of form.

Gers saw the title race expand to a nine-point gap on Saturday after a frustrating 1-1 draw with St Mirren. The players and manager were again booed off by the travelling fans.

Huge pressure is now mounting on Van Bronckhorst, and the Dutchman’s position at Ibrox is now viewed as ‘completely untenable’ by Four Lads Had a Dream.

Via their blog (13 November), they wrote: “There is no doubt he [Van Bronckhorst] brought success with a Scottish cup win and tremendous European run, financially he has brought huge income with player sales and qualification for the Champions league.

“However, to be in this position and to have overseen two league collapses means his position is completely untenable. To be nine points behind at this point in November is unacceptable, for the team to look so rudderless and devoid of ideas is arguably worse.

“I have been outspoken on his position and I take no satisfaction in doing so, but I don’t see any way he can or should continue as Rangers Manager. It isn’t working and the longer it continues the worse it will become.”

Don’t hesitate

Things are quickly getting ugly at Rangers. The signs of Van Bronckhorst’s undoing have been there for weeks now but the board held on to give him a chance of turning it around.

Sadly, as mentioned by Four Lads Had a Dream, that is no longer possible. The players have downed tools, the fans have turned and results have been utterly dire.

The club are at a crossroads – they either back Van Bronckhorst fully over January and hope that the players and fans stick with him, or they sack him now and give a new manager the World Cup break to implement his ideas to the squad.

The vast majority of Rangers fans would prefer the latter, but the board seem hesitant and that’s a real worry. Football isn’t a patient industry and there’s no time to waste. The board need to make the decision and sack Van Bronckhorst immediately so the club has a good chance of recovering when league football resumes in December.

It’s a perfect opportunity to act – now it’s all down to the board.
