£4.6m pay-out on the cards at Rangers as Giovanni van Bronckhorst sack verdict emerges

Rangers will need to pay £4.6million to sack Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his team of assistants, according to The 4th Official.

The reliable Scottish football news outlet reported via their Patreon account on Saturday (12 November) that they would have to pay £3.6million to terminate van Bronckhorst’s contract on the back of yet another disappointing result at St Mirren.

It could cost a further £1million to axe his assistants too.

Rangers are now nine points behind Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title after drawing 1-1 at St Mirren on Saturday.

Affordable?

It’ll cost as much to sack van Bronckhorst and his assistants as it was for Aston Villa to hire Steven Gerrard and his coaching staff from us last year.

That’s ridiculous, isn’t it?

Van Bronckhorst’s position seems to be untenable.

In the last few weeks, he’s seen his side drop points against St Mirren, St Johnstone and Livingston in the Scottish Premiership while he’s also been at the helm for some truly horrific Champions League performances.

You cannot forget the Old Firm defeat earlier this season too.

In fairness to van Bronckhorst, the recruitment from Ross Wilson has been awful, contract management has been terrible too. And you do have to consider the injury crisis that has rocked Ibrox for most of this year.

But ultimately, there’s a feeling that van Bronckhorst has not only lost the support of the fans but he’s also lost the support of the players, who never look as though they’re going to go out there and play out of their skin for him.

He looks dejected and his interviews offer no solace to fans desperate to see their side’s fortunes transform.

Is £4.6million too much to pay to sack off the captain of a sinking ship?

It might not be.

In other Rangers news, van Bronckhorst has been involved in a bust-up with a senior player.
