Finance Expert: It always seems to be Rangers as SPFL struggles continue
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that it always appears to be Rangers as the SPFL continues to have an issue with power and governance struggles.
The Finance Expert admitted that central deals that other clubs sometimes rely on are becoming harder to sign as the likes of the Bears and Celtic look to lobby for more.
It comes after Neil Doncaster admitted in crisis talks with Scottish Premiership clubs that legal fees regarding the Cinch sponsorship dispute are only set to rise.

“It shows that wider issue in Scottish football in terms of power and governance and the challenges that the league has in signing league-wide deals,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“You’ve heard me speak about power and influence and who is controlling that? You can see now that a lot of the clubs in any given league, you’re looking at them being more powerful than the league in some cases, and I’m not saying that’s the case in Scotland but we can see quite firmly where the power sits, you’ve got Rangers and Celtic that will always be lobbying for more against the league.
“That’s a problem because sometimes that can be a really good thing as it drives the value up, but other times when the league is trying to sign central deals and you have that in the background, it can be a challenge. For me, it shows the wider problem that Scottish football has from a governance perspective.
“It always seems to be Rangers that we are referring back to.”

If constantly going after better deals makes you the bad guy, then that may be the title that the club may have to adopt after events in recent months.
Rangers just want to bring more money in, something which will ultimately benefit the rest of the Scottish Premiership too – especially the recent TV deal.
All eyes have been on the Cinch dispute for far too long now, but it looks as now it is still set to rage on.
