Rangers likely to bring James Sands in from the cold permanently after Ben Davies injury issue
Rangers are likely to bring James Sands in from the cold immediately after they suffered yet another new injury blow over the weekend, according to The Athletic.
After Ben Davies was forced off with a new groin issue, the American dropped from where he started in midfield, into defence, with the former where he is expected to shine.
It would be an example of Giovanni van Bronckhorst bringing in a player from the cold at Ibrox, although it is said that he wouldn’t agree with that theory.

“After the break, when he moved back alongside Leon King following Ben Davies going off with a groin issue,” he wrote.
Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, Jordan Campbell shared the likely state of play within the Rangers dressing room after yet another blow.
“He is likely to move back into midfield and the balance was much better as it stopped the counter-attacks through the centre of the pitch, which have plagued Rangers in recent times.
“If he cements himself in this new role, which allows Lundstram to attack the box more, it would be another example of Van Bronckhorst being able to bring a player back in from the cold. The Dutchman likely does not see it like that.”

No Brainer.
It was a strange decision in the first place to leave out Sands completely.
Whether it is the pressure on Van Bronckhorst or not, he has not helped himself in recent weeks and months with continued strange selection choices, like only just using Ridvan Yilmaz ahead of Borna Barisic.
The American has been solid enough and certainly wasn’t in the type of form that justified him being fully dropped and nowhere to be seen on the pitch for weeks.
Van Bronckhorst is throwing plenty at the wall and just praying that something sticks at this moment in time, and he may have finally got his answer with Sands.
Whether in that midfield role or at the back is desperately needed, there aren’t many who have stood up and been counted during these hard times.
It will be interesting to see what team is selected for that Champions League showdown with Ajax, with options truly drying up with each passing match at this moment in time.
Sands, for one, will surely be in.
