Brutal injury problems mounting at Rangers as Giovanni van Bronckhorst tries to turn corner

There is a “brutal” injury crisis starting to mount at Ibrox for Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst to contend with, according to Michael Gannon.

Ben Davies was the latest to limp off with a new groin issue during the 4-1 win over Aberdeen, with the busy schedule to continue against Ajax on Tuesday 01 November.

The Daily Record journalist admitted that Van Bronckhorst needs to maintain this form until the World Cup break, regardless of the injury issues facing him.

Writing for the Daily Record when asked if the Bears had started to turn a corner, Gannon shared that the injuries starting to mount up need to be addressed.

“Time will tell but it’s a good start,” he wrote.

“Van Bronckhorst really needed that performance as well as the result. They also showed character that’s been lacking in recent weeks. There are still brutal injury problems so he needs to maintain form until the World Cup and then regroup.”

Brutal.

It could really start to hurt Rangers this problem.

The worst part about it is that every new issue appears to be coming at the heart of our defence, which hasn’t been that strong anyway since losing Calvin Bassey.

Davies was starting to come into his own after a slow start to life in Govan, but his constant ability to pick up little niggles and issues is starting to become a problem.

Van Bronckhorst will know that consistency is key to turning the corner, not only in results but in team selection too when finding that right formula that will work.

Changing tactics and having numerous plans also come into that, and pushing John Lundstram further forward certainly helped over the past fortnight.

That requires James Sands to play in midfield though, and the American looks like he will be needed at the back, which is not ideal after a brilliant last outing.

The issues are certainly brutal, but hopefully not too damaging.
