Ally McCoist delivers brutal Rangers verdict after Champions League debacle

Ally McCoist has suggested that Rangers were “out of depth” in their Champions League campaign this season.

The Gers have failed to win a single game in the Champions League group stage and lost their previous game 3-0 against Napoli away from home.

Apart from one or two short encouraging spells, the Bears have badly struggled in Europe, and McCoist has stated the fact only.

“Rangers were absolutely out of depth. That’s the fact of the matter. Looked out of depth. Unless I’m mistaken, a good hour against Napoli at home, probably a good 45 minutes against Liverpool, apart from that they’ve really struggled,” said McCoist on BT Sport.

Job on the line?

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is under extreme pressure at the moment.

Rangers, who reached the finals of the Europa League, were completely at sea against the big boys in Europe.

To be fair, the Bears were pitted in the group of death, and nobody expected them to qualify to the next round.

There is a huge gulf in quality, but what was really lacking was the application. Rangers are usually solid at Ibrox, and they should have given a tough fight to every side they have faced at home.

Against Liverpool, they were 1-0 up at the break, but then the resilence was over and they went on to concede seven goals. It was a shocking performance.

However, the Champions League debacle won’t cost the manager’s job. If Rangers fail to win against Aberdeen, the board probably will look for other options.

Celtic are winning their games with ease, and Rangers are struggling to put pressure on them. They can’t afford to drop any further points, at least before the World Cup.

In other Rangers news, Carlton Palmer has tipped this exciting player to join Ibrox in January.
