Carlton Palmer tips Blackpool forward Jerry Yates to join Rangers

Carlton Palmer has suggested that Blackpool forward Jerry Yates is likely to play for Rangers.

The Sun reported on 23 October that the Bears are eyeing a move for the 25-year-old forward in the January window.

Palmer feels that the Gers have an advantage over other potential suitors as they can offer him European football.

“If he was going to go in the January transfer window, it’s where he’s likely to play, I think he’s likely to play more at Rangers, and that would give him a greater opportunity of playing in Europe,” said Palmer, as quoted by Football League World.

“Money will impact on that, I would think that Rangers could pay him the money that he might get in the Premier Lague, but I wouldn’t say they’d be the front-runners because even when you play at Rangers or Celtic, it’s still not the same as playing in the Premier League, it really isn’t.”

Replacement for Morelos?

Rangers may struggle to get into the Europa League this season, but surely they will be able to offer European football next season.

Blackpool are in strong position with regards to his contract situation, and they are expected to demand a high transfer fee for the striker.

Yates has managed eight goals and provided two assists so far, and his scintillating form has alerted a lot of clubs, including Rangers.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst bolstered his forward options this summer by signing Antonio Colak. The Croatian has been in terrific form, netting 13 goals already.

In contrast, Alfredo Morelos has struggled for form and fitness, and the Colombian has lost his starting position to Colak. It gives the impression that Rangers are probably trying to find a replacement for Morelos.

The Colombian has a contract at the club until the end of the season, and there has been no indication that he would sign a new deal. If his situation doesn’t improve, the club could be willing to sell him in January.
