Alfredo Morelos could head for January exit as Rangers eye Jerry Yates

Rangers are reportedly keeping close eye on Blackpool striker Jerry Yates and could move for him to replace Alfredo Morelos in January.

The Sun reported on 23 October that the Bears are keen to sign the 25-year-old striker who has been in terrific form this season.

Yates, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder, has scored eight goals and two assists in the Championship this season already.

The striker has a contract at the club until 2024, but Blackpool would be willing to sell him at a profit in January. Thus, the Bears have a chance here.

It seems the club has been preparing grounds to sell Morelos in January, irrespective of whether Van Bronckhorst stays or leaves.

Morelos is a club icon and has scored over 100 goals in all competitions. He has been a great scorer but has struggled for form and fitness this season.

Van Bronckhorst has used summer signing Antonio Colak as the club’s first-choice option, and the Croatian has repaid the faith so far.

The Dutchman has time and again suggested that the club are working on a deal to keep Morelos (and Ryan Kent) with them, but there has been little progress on that front.

Morelos has a contract at the club until the end of the season, and losing him for free would be a catastrophe. He is a class player, and there will be clubs that would be willing to pay for him.

Surely, the club must sell him in January, if they can’t keep him. Get the money, and sign Yates.

January is not an ideal window for transfers, but it is the last chance for the club to sell Morelos. It’s unfortunate that he couldn’t contribute enough, and his exit looks inevitable.
