James Tavernier could not do media after Rangers loss v Liverpool because of drug test
James Tavernier could not face the media on Wednesday evening after Rangers were humiliated by Liverpool in the Champions League at Ibrox 7-1 due to a drugs test.
That’s according to Graeme Bailey, with the 90min journalist responding after the captain faced big backlash for not speaking out after the fans had to sit through one of the worst 45 minutes seen in years.
Despite taking the lead in Glasgow, the Bears capitulated with Tavernier one of many to blame for some of the embarrassing moments on show at the back.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Bailey appeared to take aim at fans for their backlash towards the skipper because of past accomplishments.
“Some Rangers fans questioning James Tavernier for not doing press after their loss to Liverpool and also him,” he wrote.
“To confirm he had to have a drugs test which meant he could not do media. He’s captained Rangers to some of their greatest moments in recent history – don’t forget that.”
Shocking.
Tensions are running very high right now at Ibrox, and there is every reason for that.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst is taking a lot of flack and understandably so, but these players also have to take some of that for some of the rubbish on show.
The manager cannot help his players misplacing simple passes time and time again which lead to goals, that is down to dreadful ability, and that was on show for sure.
Tavernier, as captain, had to get stuck into his men and then speak out to the media too, even if just to apologise, but none of that happened in the end.
No player can help being called in for drug testing, that is part of the game, but cowering away after that is not the answer, especially when this isn’t the first collapse in the Champions League.
All eyes are now on Motherwell, and if that doesn’t end in all three points, it will cause absolute carnage at the club, that is for sure – it could spell the end for many.
