Giovanni van Bronckhorst may now be doomed to keep job at Rangers as nails added to coffin

Giovanni van Bronckhorst may now be doomed in his quest to keep his job at Rangers after the 7-1 defeat against Liverpool, according to Graham Spiers.

The Mail+ writer admitted that crushing defeats such as this one do not come without consequences with Ibrox expected to be no different this time around.

It is suggested that more nails will have been added to the coffin in terms of his job security, with fans now asking for him to leave along with the likes of Ross Wilson.

Writing in a column for Mail+ on Thursday 13 October, Spiers shared the doom that is facing Van Bronckhorst in the not-so-distant future.

“This is very serious indeed for Giovanni van Bronckhorst,” he wrote.

“There is an ancient law of the football universe: Rangers don’t take heavy beatings without consequences. And losing 7-1 to Liverpool is heinous. If it is true that van Bronckhorst’s coffin is being assembled, then Wednesday night’s Ibrox humiliation added more than a few nails.

“How does he arrest this Rangers decline? One way is to start flying domestically while leaving Ange Postecoglou and Celtic in their wake. But few can see it. Van Bronckhorst, aided by seven Liverpool blows, may well be doomed.”

Rangers

Doomed.

Based on previous success and expected domestic form, Van Bronckhorst is surely going to get more time in his post it seems, with Motherwell up next.

Lose there and it will certainly be one more nail and definitely the last with a club statement surely expected to follow soon after that final whistle.

Not many fans expected much in terms of progression in this Champions League, but competing in each fixture and taking the odd point is little to ask – definitely not schoolboy performances and conceding seven.

These are the same players that flew in Europe last season with the same system, so some of the blame obviously has to go on to them as well at this stage.

All eyes are on the boardroom now, as it feels weird to be talking about someone being sacked after years of that not happening at Ibrox.

Change is needed quickly, or that coffin will be slammed shut on the Rangers’ employment of Van Bronckhorst before he can even say stop.
