Serious plan to bring through talent at Rangers for player trading model to work

Rangers have a serious plan in place to bring through young talent into their squad after serial success in recent years, according to Jonny McFarlane.

It is shared that for the Bears to ensure their player trading model works in the future, more young success stories are needed at Auchenhowie and Ibrox.

Nathan Patterson is the perfect example of homegrown talent, but those like Calvin Bassey who was brought in for little to nothing and sold on for huge profit also fit the bill.

Writing in his latest piece for Rangers Review, McFarlane shared that more examples like those two defenders will be needed for the club to move forward.

“For Rangers to move forward and ensure their player trading model works, more Pattersons will be required,” he wrote.

“The pressure is on the academy to create such talents of course, but if there isn’t joined-up thinking throughout the club to give them a chance, they might as well not bother.

“Leon Balogun’s departure wasn’t one to celebrate, he was a brilliant character at Ibrox and a very solid player. However, it does stand as evidence of a club with a serious plan to bring through young talent.”

Needs to work.

Ross Wilson has come under real criticism for his work in the transfer window over the summer.

The likes of Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo were let go, and that money wasn’t exactly spent heavily with replacements still not finding their feet at Ibrox.

Profit appears to be the main goal though, with European windfall from the Champions League and success in the Europa League seemingly not enough.

Looking at the best way to raise that cash is the player trading model, with around £40million eventually going to be brought in through Patterson and Bassey alone.

Eyes are already on the next talents on the production line, with the likes of Adam Devine and Alex Lowry really pushing to become first-team regulars.

Leon King is closest and did get his chance against Liverpool in the Champions League, but it may be quite some time before he cements his spot and brings in a similar windfall to those above.

The plan is clearly in place.
