Barry Ferguson excited about possibility of Rangers playing striker pair of Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos

Barry Ferguson has expressed excitement in seeing the possibility of Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos playing together for Rangers.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst, while talking to the media on Friday, 07 October, opened the possibility of the duo leading the line together in the future.

Ferguson, while talking to Go Radio as quoted by Daily Record, stated that the duo can become a formidable pairing that can cause the opposing teams problems.

“That excites me,” he said. “Whether it’s a two or with Morelos just paying off him. But that tells me it’s obviously in his thinking.

“I do still think they’ll go with the five at the back [v Liverpool], maybe 10 yards higher up the park with the wing backs pushed up the pitch.

“Then you’ve got Colak and Morelos with a physical presence. They need to try and get something out of the Liverpool game and Rangers fans will be excited listening to that.

“He might try it tomorrow but then Liverpool will be looking and thinking that’s the way they’re going to play against us. Maybe he’s thinking he’ll leave it until next Wednesday and work on it Monday and Tuesday leading up to that game.

“But it’s interesting comments and he’s thinking out of the box. Morelos, I need him in the team because of his physical presence. He can harass defenders.

“Colak; penalty box striker, so don’t be surprised if you see it next Wednesday night against Liverpool. You’ve got to think different, it’s worth a shout, I think those two as a double act could cause teams problems.”

Important matches ahead

Rangers have been going through a bit of a rollercoaster ride in the ongoing campaign. The side started brightly and cemented their place in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in over a decade.

Then the season turned upside down as the Gers suffered three heavy defeats in the space of two weeks. But the side returned to winning ways and defeated Hearts and Dundee United in back-to-back fixtures to get some confidence back.

However, they were once again on a losing side against a strong Liverpool team in the Champions League fixture on Tuesday, 04 October.

In all of those matches, Rangers went in with a striker to keep the balance of the team and it worked sometimes whereas, on the other occasions, the team looked one-dimensional.

Therefore, Van Bronckhorst’s admission that both Colak and Morelos can play together will be a breath of fresh air for the Gers fans who will be hoping to see their team play on the front foot with two proven strikers up front.
