Ross Wilson to flush millions down drain as Rangers get ready for mass exodus

It feels as though we’ve been saying for a few years now that this Rangers squad could do with re-energising.

According to the latest CIES study, the Rangers squad averages out at 28.42 years old, which makes it the oldest in the Scottish Premiership thanks to the likes of Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield still being on the books.

We thought we’d head in a new direction at the end of last season before those three were all offered new contracts but with their deals once again ending next year, it’s fair to say a mass exodus is on the cards at Ibrox.

While releasing players in their late 30s and early 40s isn’t really an issue, waving goodbye to those at the peak of their careers is an absolute joke.

Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Ryan Jack and Filip Helander are all currently in the final months of their contracts at Ibrox.

While Jack, 30, and Helander, 29, have well-documented injury issues at Ibrox, the fact that Morelos, 26, and Kent, 25, could leave on free transfers is criminal.

While transfermarkt’s numbers aren’t always ones to rely on, they’re a good measure of just how many millions Ross Wilson could be flushing down the drain at Ibrox by overseeing these players leaving on frees.

According to transfermarkt, those four players are worth a combined total of £34.2million.

In truth, they’re worth diddly-squat in the transfer market as all four of them will be available for clubs to snap up on pre-contracts as soon as 1 January comes around.

We’re in October now and only two full months then remain before the January window opens and Rangers are open to clubs coming in for the likes of Morelos and Kent – and why wouldn’t they?

Wilson has left Rangers down here.

How can he has allowed it to get to the point where two of the club’s most valuable players can potentially leave for nothing?

Why did he prioritise new deals for ageing players in the summer when he should have been either getting contracts lined up for Kent and Morelos or either looking to sell them on to ensure the club at least makes some money on them.

Rangers’ squad is worse now than it was last season.

It’s also worth less money.

And we doubt shareholders will take kindly to Wilson leading the club to this point.

Change is needed.
