Rangers: Champions League is shop window for Ryan Kent if he wants Premier League move – Chris Sutton

Chris Sutton has insisted that the Champions League is an important shop window for Ryan Kent if he wants to leave Rangers this season.

The winger is in the final year of his contract at Ibrox and struggled massively in the 2-0 defeat against Liverpool through the week as he returned to his old side.

Sutton admitted that Kent will be judged on those nights if he wants to move to the English Premier League for his next career step, with his goals and assists not enough.

Speaking live on BT Sports’ Scottish Football Extra [07 October, 18:35], Sutton singled out the winger for his judgement after being quizzed.

“That’s a really important shop window for him, isn’t it, the Champions League,” he said.

“That is where he will be judged if he wants to go down to the English Premier League. Listen, I think we’re all in agreement that he’s a really talented player, but I don’t think his goals and assists for the talent has aren’t what they should be.

“It’s in games where you have to perform, it’s not all doom and gloom for Rangers.”

Shop Window.

If this is Kent trying to force his way out of the club in the coming windows, he is going the wrong way around it.

Clubs in England won’t be too impressed, but the blame can’t just lie at his feet, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst continually adopting a losing mentality.

The confidence must be low when your own manager is admitting you cannot compete, we weren’t saying this against the likes of RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund last season.

Kent has often been isolated in these big games, but especially against Napoli, he was one of the brightest sparks causing the biggest problems when we were at 11 men.

Sutton is painfully right when it comes to the need for more goals and assists though, with those involvements not good enough for the amount he creates for others and himself.

Time will tell if Kent signs a new contract, but right now, it looks very much unlikely.
