Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be thrilled by Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack's latest display
Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack impressed for Scotland as they drew 0-0 against Ukraine on Tuesday (27 September), and this will delight Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
A battling draw against Ukraine earned Steve Clarke’s side promotion and their chances of qualifying for Euro 2024 have now dramatically improved.
The defensive display was praised by pundits, but it’s the performance of Ryan Jack that should please the Gers fan base.
The midfielder started the game and put in a solid shift over 72 minutes. He was then substituted by Stuart Armstrong.
The way he controlled possession was commendable, and The Atheltic journalist Jordan Campbell was one of those who praised his effort on Twitter.
His return to some kind of form is absolutely vital for Rangers who have made a stuttering start to the season.
Jack battled with his fitness problems last season, but he did make a strong impact towards the end of the season as the Bears reached the finals of the Europa League.
He also scored a screamer in the final of the Scottish League Cup against Hearts.
This season, Jack looked a bit rusty. Usually, we expect a high-level performance from him every single time, but something was lacking in his game so far.
His composure and quality on the ball were never in doubt, but his fitness remained an issue. Against Ukraine, he has hinted at returning to his best form and looked a lot sharper.
Despite a poor start, the Bears find themselves only two points behind Celtic in the league. If they are to challenge the Bhoys all the way to the end, Van Bronckhorst will need all his key players to step up and maintain consistency till the end.
He needs Jack to be on top of his game. The midfielder could now make a big difference in the league as he is expected to get better, in terms of fitness.
Van Bronckhorst also needs to sort out Jack’s contract. The Gers midfielder has less than a year remaining on his present deal, and there has been no development on this.
The Dutchman will be very pleased to see Jack playing so well, and he will hope that the midfielder will now take his game to the next level after the international break.
