Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs to make key decisions on Rangers duo

As many as 12 Rangers players are in the final year of their present deal, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs to bold calls on some of them.

While the contract situations of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos have been well documented, the Dutchman should also make a big decision on the futures of Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield.

Jack has been a key player under both Steven Gerrard and Van Bronckhorst, having made 161 appearances for the Bears since joining from Aberdeen.

He has been everpresent in Rangers matchday squad this season, having played nine times so far this season.

The 30-year-old scored the winner in the Scottish Cup final last season, and he still has got lots of football left in him. His experience is invaluable but there has been no progress yet on his contract situation.

Similarly, Arfield has played in every league game so far this season and has featured in European games as well.

The 33-year-old has been ever-reliable for the Gers in the past few years, and the Dutchman rewarded the midfielder with a one-year deal over the summer.

The big question is – will he be given a similar contract extension similar to what the club did with Allan McGregor and Steven Davis?

Rangers

This is a huge problem for the Gers, and it is something they must look at going forward.

The club must sort out the contracts of the players the manager feels are important for his side. It is a healthy scenario to leave the players in the final year of their deals and sort it out very late.

In the case of Morelos or Kent, the situation is different. Both the players have no shortage of admirers, and Rangers are cash in on them if necessary. The money can be recycled into the squad.

The same can’t be said about these two. It’s either they will have to keep them on a rolling contract, or the Dutchman need to let them go to add new faces.

In other Rangers news, Gary Keown has also slammed the Gers over the latest revelations.
