Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor shines in Champions League defeat v Napoli
Rangers suffered their second defeat in the Champions League against Napoli on Wednesday (14 September), but Allan McGregor received huge praise for his performance.
The Gers suffered a 3-0 loss against the Italian giants, but it was a spirited performance from them at Ibrox.
The Daily Record (15 September) has given McGregor 8/10 (15 September, page 58), where they wrote that it is “hard to fathom” where Giovanni van Bronckhorst dropped his veteran goalkeeper all these days.
Daily Record wrote: “Still hard to fathom how his boss decided to drop the 40-year-old but surely can be no doubt now he’s No.1 man after his double penalty stop.”
What a performance!
This performance now should end the debate that who should start in goal going forward.

Van Bronckhorst has used Jon McLaughlin so far. He is a good goalkeeper, but surely he is at best a reliable back-up option from McGregor.
The veteran goalkeeper has time and time again proved what a class player he is. Last season, he had suffered a dip in form, but he also played a key role as Rangers reached the finals of the Europa League.
Once again, on a big European night, McGregor produced some outstanding saves. It was really difficult for Rangers to fight with 10 men, and the result could have been different without the red-card incident.
Despite the defeat, the players can keep their heads held high. Nobody expects the Bears to win the group and qualify to the next round, but people want to see the players playing with pride and passion, something that was missing in the previous two games.
In other Rangers news, Nigel Farage has demanded major action from the Gers and from Chelsea after what happened in the Champions League this week.
