Rangers dealt blow with Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou not interested in Brighton job

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is set to turn down any approach from Brighton – and that could be a blow to Rangers and their hopes of closing the gap to their Old Firm rivals.

The Telegraph reported (10 September) that the Australian is not inclined to leave Parkhead and the project he has begun over the past year at Celtic.

His 32 wins from 39 games in charge of Rangers’ bitter rivals has seen the Scottish Premiership return to the East End of Glasgow and already left the Gers behind in the 2022/23 league campaign.

Ultimately, Celtic have become a force under the Australian, probably more so than they were under Brendan Rodgers and if he had decided to leave the club there would’ve been every chance that the players’ performance could have dropped.

For Rangers to harbour any hopes of regaining the Scottish Premiership, they will need to put a consistent string of results together over the coming weeks and months before they meet Celtic again at the start of January.

It’s somewhat surprising to hear that the Australian will turn down a move to Brighton, considering the opportunities and money that the Premier League has to offer.

A new manager coming in at Celtic Park could well have opened the door for the Gers to make up the five-point gap during a time of potential uncertainty at their Old Firm rivals.

However, it now appears that Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the club hierarchy must find a way of bringing his squad quickly up to the level to compete with their Old Firm rivals on a domestic front with Postecoglou still in charge.
