Jeff Stelling predicts Rangers showdown v Napoli in Champions League

Jeff Stelling has backed Rangers to bounce back in their Champions League showdown against Napoli on Wednesday with a hard-fought draw.

The Sky Sports host has predicted that it will finish 1-1 as Ibrox gets set to welcome back the biggest competition in club football for over a decade.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be desperate for a result after consecutive crushing defeats away from home against both Celtic and Ajax in the past fortnight.

Stelling was making his prediction for Sky Sports’ Super 6 ahead of the rearranged fixture pushed back 24 hours without the travelling Italian contingent.

With Liverpool taking on Ajax, wins for the two British clubs could no doubt blow the doors open in Group A with everything potentially having one victory each.

Battle.

One thing that has been guaranteed over recent years in Europe is that fight and determination that many clubs simply cannot deal with.

What has been unacceptable this season is that has disappeared.

Even in the qualifying rounds, we were shocking against Union Saint-Gilloise, and then the Ajax game was even worst, something we did not believe was possible.

The squad had the weekend free to work on things after the Aberdeen game was postponed, and some hard miles have to have been put in at Auchenhowie.

Napoli are top of Serie A as things stand and smashed Liverpool last week, but this is the Champions League and anything can happen, especially at Ibrox.

All four stands will be rocking in Glasgow and with no away fans, this is going to be one of the most daunting trips for the Italians to try and deal with – let’s hope they fail.
