Giovanni van Bronckhorst may be fighting losing battle for Rangers job – Chris Jack

Giovanni van Bronckhorst may be fighting a losing battle to keep his Rangers job this season, according to Chris Jack on Monday 12 September.

The reliable journalist admitted that some fans are starting to question the Dutchman, and are even saying that one more defeat in the Scottish Premiership could spell the end.

That suggests a feeling that it is already too late after a quiet end to the transfer window and big defeats at both Celtic and Ajax in a damaging last couple of weeks.

Writing in his latest piece for the Glasgow Evening Times, Jack shared his verdict on the ongoing struggles of the Dutchman in the dug out at Ibrox.

“When fans are questioning the position of a manager and are stating that one more Premiership defeat could cost him his job, there is a feeling that it is already too late, that faith has been lost,” he wrote.

“Van Bronckhorst has many redeeming qualities and some successes. But he looks to be fighting a losing battle and it is hard to see where the required turnaround will come from to save Rangers’ season and his position.”

Change.

It is weird to see how quickly things have changed at Ibrox, but that is the brutal business that is football.

Douglas Park and the Ibrox board have a big decision on the future of Van Bronckhorst, but any decision would need to be made on the basis that they have made big mistakes too.

Having the money available through players sales and then Europa League and Champions League windfalls, but not using it, is a shocking decision.

Van Bronckhorst may have been forced to accept that too as he continually admits he is happy with his squad, despite the glaring holes that we can all see.

That lack of spending may be somewhat explained by the fact that we are now on the UEFA watchlist for Financial Fair Play compliance, although that can’t be an excuse.

Van Bronckhorst needs results, and he needs them quickly or he could be staring down the barrel very quickly.
