Journalist slams Giovanni van Bronckhorst for Rangers loss v Ajax

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been criticised for the humiliating 4-0 defeat Rangers suffered against Ajax in the Champions League.

Gers went into the game on the back of a 4-0 loss to rivals Celtic and morale was undoubtedly low.

However, instead of spurring the players on, the Dutchman saw his team suffer yet another embarrassing defeat.

Jonny McFarlane said on the Rangers Review, “It was traumatic especially when you look at some of the numbers. Their xG was 0.09 which means that if they played this game 100 times, they would score only nine times. There was another stat that said Ajax would win 95 per cent of the time with the other five being a draw. Rangers were never winning that game.

“The pressure is undoubtedly on Giovanni van Bronckhorst as losing 4-0 was unacceptable. Ajax are a better team but they’re not that much better.”

Spot on

Nobody would have faulted the Dutchman had Gers played well and gone down fighting.

It was always going to be a tough game away in Amsterdam and even the most ardent of fans would admit that winning it was a long shot.

However, the manner of the defeat is what raised questions in a week in which they also suffered a defeat against their arch-rivals Celtic by the same scoreline.

Both Celtic and Ajax arguably have better squads but they made these games look like it was boys versus men – something which is unacceptable.

The pressure is rightly on van Bronckhorst and he’s got to prove that he can overcome adversity because he cannot get everything he wants with this board.

Sure, he would’ve loved a signing or two after qualifying for the Champions League but that does not mean he will not be pulled up for such humiliating performances.

In other Rangers news, the BBC never seem to learn their lessons as they persist with their embarrassing anti-Rangers agenda.
