Dan Plumley: Rangers ownership battle possible as £75m legal news drops

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers could be looking to protect their investments by turning down outside funding from American investor Kyle Fox.

Fox promised £75million would be pumped into the club over five years for a 25% stake, but instead that was waved away and she was actually sued for using the club logo instead [Daily Record].

Finance Guru, Plumley, admitted that a potential ownership battle is on the cards at Ibrox with decisions being made on potential investments as the appeal grows more to investors.

“That would be the guess, that they are protecting their investment in the club,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“For whatever reason, this is not the person that they want investing in their club. That is what you get, that battle with ownership is who has the majority share and what that means with investment coming in and how difficult that can be to negotiate that so I think you would put that down to a little bit of not wanting change in that regard.

“Especially with where the club is right now, Europa League final and then back in the group stage of the Champions League, it’s a club that people want to be involved in at the minute.”

With so many shares being made available, it is hard to know where the ball falls in terms of the decision-makers.

New Oasis Asset Limited own 15.13% of the club, Douglas Park 12.16% and the latest director George Taylor comes in next with 9.96% – as seven others hold majority stakes.

Do they all get a say on the decisions? It is hard to know but Park and John Bennett likely have a big say with Director of Finance, Andrew Dickson, likely consulted on matters such as this.

With interest seemingly growing in outside investors, this is certainly one to watch develop in the coming months and years at Ibrox.
