Dan Plumley reacts as Rangers placed on UEFA watchlist, concern will not be big at Ibrox
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers will have no big concerns over being added to the UEFA watchlist over Financial Fair Play compliance in the past week.
The Finance Expert shared that clubs can lose around £50million cumulatively over four year reported periods, with the club needing to fall in line with UEFA’s regulations.
With the Europa League and Champions League windfalls to come in upcoming accounts though, cause for concern isn’t said to be that high at Ibrox.

“The bottom line is profit and losses is what they are basing this off in the accounts,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“You can get to around a £50million cumulative loss over the four-year reported period with COVID, but again, that is not including COVID reductions already so in a similar way to West Ham, I think they will be ok, they will not be overly concerned as they can claw some of that back through COVID.
“Again, what we can see with Rangers, in the next set of accounts we will have the full details of the Europa League run and the Champions League to come in the following set of accounts, so the revenue position will get much better so that will balance out as well.
“They will have to fall in line with UEFA’s regulations now they are in those competitions, but again, you won’t be overly concerned. [Champions League] will boost their revenues massively.”

There will be a close eye on all the accounts now at Ibrox, with attention rising after our runs in Europe over the last few years under Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
When you add in the transfer windfall from selling the likes of Calvin Bassey, Nathan Patterson and Joe Aribo which could reach £50million or more, Douglas park won’t be too concerned.
This is one to watch, but nothing should go wrong, not immediately anyway.
