Jamie O’Hara thinks Rangers will make it out of the Champions League group stage

Jamie O’Hara believes that Rangers will get out of the Champions League group stage in second place due to their form at Ibrox.

The Gers get their European adventure underway with a daunting trip to Amsterdam to face Dutch giants Ajax on Wednesday evening (7 September).

However, O’Hara has told talkSPORT EDGE [6 September] believes they do have a chance of getting through the group before getting knocked out in the first knock-out round

“The saving grace for Rangers is that they’re going to have three home games and they’re unbelievable at home so they might have a chance you know,” he said.

“Do you know what, I am going to give Rangers second in the group stage.

“They’re going to get through and then they’ll get knocked out.”

It is possible

For Rangers to get through this daunting-looking group they will have to be targeting the home games against Ajax and Napoli.

If they fail to pick up maximum points from those two fixtures then it will be an extremely tough task for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side to qualify.

Rangers picked up a win in their last away trip at PSV but travelling to the Johan Cruijff Arena, Anfield and the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples will be a completely different test for this team.

Ideally, Rangers should aim to pick up seven points at Ibrox, with wins over Napoli and Ajax and then a draw against last year’s runners-up Liverpool.

A further point or two away from home could then put the Gers in a good position to make it through to the knockout stage of the competition.

What is for certain is that there are set to be some special nights in store at Ibrox, particularly when English giants Liverpool make the trip to Glasgow in what promises to be a mouthwatering prospect.

A draw away at Ajax tonight would be an ideal start for Rangers and van Bronckhorst.
