Chris Sutton reacts as Rangers suffer 4-0 loss v Ajax

Chris Sutton has suggested that he has been left baffled by Rangers plans as they suffered a 4-0 defeat against Ajax in the Champions League opening group game on Wednesday (7 September).

The visitors were thoroughly outclassed. The Bears have now lost with the same scoreline in back-to-back games. This is unacceptable.

Losing before Ajax is no shame, as they are one of the giants in Europe. But losing in this fashion is something else.

Sutton wrote on Twitter: “Not sure which plan Rangers are using to have Ajax sussed this evening.”

Bitter truth

Rangers were not only outclassed, they just couldn’t match them physically.

There was no plan and no shape. After going 3-0 down at the break, the Dutchman tried to inject some positivity by changing the formation.

They managed to keep Ajax in check for a while, but then individual error once again had let everyone down.

Throughout the game, there were plenty of individual errors. The players couldn’t string out proper passes that could lead to an attack.

Rangers

Throughout the game, they just kept chasing shadows.

The number of miss-passes the players have made leaves you in disbelief. Is this the same team that reached the finals of the Europa League?

More than the gulf in quality, it’s the gulf in mentality that is evident. Van Bronckhorst is now tremendous pressure. Where are the summer signings? Where is Alfredo Morelos?

They looked mentally jaded. Physically jaded. This is absolutely shocking performance from the Bears.
