Jeff Stelling predicts Rangers showdown v Ajax in Champions League for Sky Sports

Jeff Stelling has backed Ajax to hand Rangers a sorry return to the big time as they kickstart their Champions League group stage journey this week.

The Sky Sports host has predicted that it will finish 2-0 to the home side as the Bears also get set to take on Napoli and Liverpool in the coming months.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be looking for the spirit shown in Eindhoven when beating PSV only weeks ago, not that shown in the Old Firm over the weekend.

Sharing his prediction for Sky Sports’ Super 6, Stelling did not see much positivity coming from Amsterdam for the Bears on their travels this week.

Result.

It is vitally important to pick up points in every game in the Champions League.

No game is as simple as anyone thinks, and if Rangers can travel to Amsterdam and leave with a point, everyone would no doubt be delighted.

We have somewhat become masters of the tough European tie in recent years in the Europa League, beating the likes of Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig against the odds.

That is exactly why this isn’t as straightforward as everyone else believes it may be.

The Old Firm over the weekend means nothing and no doubt, Van Bronckhorst will have got stuck into his squad for that pathetic outing, but this is the perfect chance to bounce back.

Ajax have started perfectly in their five Eredivisie games, but even PSV Eindhoven are flying with a positive goal difference of 16 already, so that means nothing.

All eyes are on Amsterdam, as the mighty Bears rock into town looking to steal all three points – bring it on.
