Predicted Rangers starting XI for Champions League showdown v Ajax

Rangers finally begin their return to the big time on Wednesday as they travel to take on Ajax in the Champions League group stages.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be looking to right the wrongs of the Old Firm after being smashed 4-0 by Celtic at Parkhead in what was simply embarrassing.

There will no doubt be numerous changes, but with a number of injuries, the squad has taken a real battering over the past couple of weeks.

Allan McGregor simply has to start in goal. Jon McLaughlin should not be seen in a Rangers shirt for a long, long time after his embarrassing display on Saturday.

Injuries and lack of opportunity for others means the back four may stay the same – with Borna Barisic going forward one of few positives from last time out and James Tavernier on the other flank.

Connor Goldson and James Sands will also continue, with Ben Davies not yet anywhere near ready, especially for Champions League football.

Rangers

Ryan Jack played a big role in Europe last season, and he will start alongside John Lundstram as two holding options to try and control the ball and dominate defensively.

Scott Arfield will finish the midfield three, with experience the word for Van Bronckhorst after being let down by the likes of Malik Tillman at Celtic.

Ryan Kent keeps his spot as usual, but he needs to deliver with Scott Wright on the other side, moving forward with Glen Kamara the latest one to miss out.

After looking nothing like his usual self off the bench, Alfredo Morelos will stay there and it will be Antonio Colak leading the line – the Croatian needs to influence the game more though, he cannot rely on one goalscoring chance and nothing else.
