Giovanni van Bronckhorst not at fault for Rangers humiliation v Celtic – Barry Ferguson
Barry Ferguson has stated that Giovanni van Bronckhorst was not at fault for Rangers horror display against Celtic on Saturday afternoon.
The Gers suffered a 4-0 thrashing against the Hoops in the Old Firm derby at Celtic Park, and it could have been even worst on the day.
In a column for the Daily Record, Ferguson wrote that a manager cannot do much if his players switch off at key moments, just like the Rangers players did at the weekend.

“It was so bad I had to watch it twice and,” he wrote. “Yes, and I don’t mind admitting I’m still feeling the pain right now.
“But if I’m feeling sorry for myself then I can only imagine how Gio has dealt with the past 24 hours or so. He looked totally shell-shocked by what he witnessed and I can’t say I blame him.
“But what is the manager supposed to do when his players take it in turns to switch off at key moments? Once was bad enough. But three times in the space of the first 45 minutes?”
Horrible
Ranges started the season hoping to improve on the previous campaign’s performances where they finished as the runners-up in the UEFA Europa League and also won the Scottish Cup final.
Early on, things looked amazing for the Gers as they not only remained unbeaten in the first five league fixtures but also booked their place in the Champions League group stage.

However, on Saturday, they had a reality check against Celtic in the Old Firm derby where they suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat.
That result exposed a lot of loopholes in the squad and Van Bronckhorst will now have a big task ahead of the team’s opening fixture against Dutch club Ajax in Europe’s elite club competition.
The last time when Rangers suffered a defeat in the current season was when Union SG stunned them with a 2-0 victory in the first-leg of the Champions League qualification third-round.
The side managed to make a grand comeback and outclassed their opponents in the next fixture by securing a 3-2 win and subsequently qualified to the next phase.
That is exactly what the fans will be expecting of their team this time around as well and they will be hoping to see the Gers bounce back and secure a win in the next round against the Dutch champions.
In other Rangers news, the BBC never seem to learn their lessons as they persist with their embarrassing anti-Rangers agenda.
