Tom English slams Rangers goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin v Celtic
Rangers suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Celtic in the Old Firm derby clash on Saturday (3 September) at Celtic Park.
It was complete dominance from the home side, and there were plenty of mistakes from the visitors.
The Gers goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin made a mess as he passed the ball to David Turnbull, and BBC Sport journalist Tom English wasn’t too impressed.

“You wondered at the break whether Celtic would have the energy to keep piling on the misery. Earlier in the year they declared at three. Here, they made it four – a gift from McLaughlin to David Turnbull, a sure sign that the goalkeeper’s head had gone,” wrote English for BBC Sport (3 September).
“The pass to Turnbull was a symbol of the job Celtic did on Rangers on the day. The visitors weren’t just beaten, they were routed. The last blast of Walsh’s whistle was a mercy to them.”
Gap
The gap at the top is now five points, and the Bears have to make sure they don’t drop enough points now.
Celtic have looked strong domestically but it’s a long season, and Rangers will have opportunities to close them down.
However, the performance was nowhere near acceptable, and serious scrutiny is needed.
Rangers are doing well in European games, but they need to translate that energy and form in the league as well.
At the moment, the spark is missing. In a game of this magnitude, it’s hard to believe that Rangers failed to come up with any sort of resistance.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has done a terrific job since taking over, and at the same time, he has brought in adequate players to bolster the squad.
There should be no excuse now. It’s unfair to criticise one particular player, even though McLaughlin made a terrible mess. There were so many sloppy moments from Rangers and they need to learn from it.
In other Rangers news, the BBC never seem to learn their lessons as they persist with their embarrassing anti-Rangers agenda.
