Barry Ferguson lambasts Rangers for horror show v Celtic

Barry Ferguson believes that Rangers players have let “a lot of people down” after their poor performance against Celtic.

The Gers suffered a thumping 4-0 defeat in the first Old Firm of the 2022-23 campaign on Saturday.

Talking on a Go Football Radio Show, Ferguson lambasted Rangers for being the second-best against their rivals.

“I suspect that he’ll [Gio van Bronckhorst] will not be a happy man,” he said. “And neither he should be. The goals, it’s not good enough at that level.

“It can happen once in a game, but you can’t let it happen a second and third time. Plain and simple. Celtic were the better team.

“And they [Rangers] are going to come in for a bit of flack, no doubt about it. They’ve let a lot of people down and if they are professionals they’ll know they’ve let themselves down.

“But there is no getting away from the fact that Celtic were stronger in all departments and it’s a sore one. A sore, sore one to lose.”

Harsh reality

Rangers started the campaign hoping to improve on their performances in the previous campaign where they finished as the runners-up in the Europa League and also won the Scottish Cup.

In the first few weeks of the 2022-23 campaign, everything went according to plan as the Gers ended up securing their place in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League after an exile of more than a decade.

But performance on Saturday was a reality check no one expected especially in a match where Rangers had a chance to go on top of the table with a win against their fiercest rivals.

Following that defeat, Gio van Bronckhorst’s men are already in trouble in the league campaign where they are now five points behind Celtic who are still undefeated in the competition.

The fans will be hoping that the performance against the Hoops was a one-off and that the players will be able to recover from this setback, especially in a week when they are set to begin their Champions League campaign.

In other Rangers news, the BBC never seem to learn their lessons as they persist with their embarrassing anti-Rangers agenda.
