Rangers defender Nikola Katic joins FC Zurich on permanent deal

Rangers defender Nikola Katic has joined FC Zurich on a permanent deal on Wednesday (31 August), the club have confirmed on their official website.

Katic, who spent time on loan away from Ibrox last season, dropped down the pecking order at the club, and it was expected that he would leave at some point this summer.

The club haven’t disclosed the transfer fee and leaves the club with good wishes from everyone.

Unfortunate

Katic joined the Bears in the summer of 2018 and he immediately made a strong impact.

He was one of the key players under Steven Gerrard and went on to make 59 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring six goals.

However, the Croatian picked up a horrible injury that changed his situation completely. He was on loan at Hajduk Split when Giovanni van Bronckhorst took over.

The 25-year-old thought that he would be able to make an impact in pre-season training, but the Dutchman had other ideas.

Despite losing Calvin Bassey, the Bears have bolstered their defence, with some fantastic additions. It became very clear that he is not in the manager’s plans at all.

Rangers are well stocked in defence, and it looks likely that young talent Leon King will now be given more exposure this season to step his progress in the first team.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if Rangers manage to bring one or two players before Thursday’s deadline, as they can afford to spend money thanks to their Champions League heroics.

In other Rangers news, the BBC never seem to learn their lessons as they persist with their embarrassing anti-Rangers agenda.
